本片根據英國兒童文學女作家伊麗莎白·古吉《古堡里的月亮公主》改編，配樂由Christian Henson擔綱。

　　13歲的孤女瑪麗亞和自己的家庭教師來到銀露村月亮坪莊園，投奔堂叔本杰明爵士。銀露村民風淳樸、美麗如畫，但又是一個充滿了種種神秘和懸念的謎一般的地方――庭園里到處是修剪成奇異的公雞和騎士形狀的紅豆杉樹，單身一人的本杰明爵士和他的小矮人廚師聲稱：20年來沒有女人踏進過月亮坪莊園宅子的大門。一條大得嚇人、怎么看都不像狗的大狗郎爾夫（它在出走了20年后突然又跑回了宅子），一只聰明神奇、會用爪子畫畫傳遞消息的黑貓扎卡拉，一片神秘莫測的黑松樹林，一匹亦真亦幻的小白馬，還有一段流傳了幾百年的關于月亮公主和小白馬的神秘往事……隱藏在這一切背后的，是兩個家族世代結下的怨仇。
