一位政治家離開議會從家里出走，消失得無影無蹤。新聞工作者Gregory Karr正在報導停留在邊境的移民和難民的情況，他在人群中碰到一個人非常像那個失蹤的政治家。他還找到了一個被作為國境線的河流一分為二的小鎮，看到一場超現實的婚禮，新娘和家人在河的這邊，新郎和親友在河的那邊。那個人的身份一直沒有確定，而那些不幸的難民以及被分割的村莊使Karr理解了他對人情世故的絕望。

Eleni Karaindrou生于希臘中部山區的一個小村莊Teichio，在雅典長大并在Hellenikon Odion學習鋼琴與音樂的理論。1969年到1974年間，她在巴黎學習民族音樂學，并在學成返國后成立了傳統樂器實驗室 (the Laboratory for Traditional Instruments)。Eleni一直對希臘音樂有著無比的熱情與支持。她為很多的電影、戲劇編寫配樂。從1982年起，Eleni開始為Theo Angelopoulos的電影譜寫配樂。

除了傳說中發明笛子的半人半羊的希神“潘”和六十年代現代主義作曲家Iannis Xenakis外，希臘真正提供給世界的杰出音樂家寥寥無幾——盡管有Vangelis這樣的電子先鋒及一大批走紅于國際舞臺的New Age音樂家，在希臘人的眼里，卻是卡蘭卓將他們的祖國重新放回到世界音樂的版圖中。在50多歲的時候，卡蘭卓就已經被她的同胞們稱為“第十繆斯”（'Tenth Muse'）。她的音樂植根于希臘的傳統但卻不拘泥于形式，借鑒了民謠、爵士和古典音樂，用希臘民間樂器和各種現代管弦樂器融合出一種獨特的古老而近乎神秘的聲音，但其精神卻是現代主義的。
