安德魯．V．麥克拉倫執(zhí)導(dǎo)的本片講述一名曾在南非作戰(zhàn)的雇傭兵軍官（理查德．伯頓飾），受職率領(lǐng)一個敢死隊(duì)往南非營救一名遭政敵禁錮的黑人領(lǐng)袖（羅杰．摩爾飾），但任務(wù)成功后才發(fā)現(xiàn)被出賣。故事交代流暢，動作場面刺激，敢死隊(duì)高空跳下在空中飄浮的鏡頭處理頗為精采，可惜對政客的丑陋面目未能作更深入的探討。本片于四年后推出續(xù)集《魔雁突擊隊(duì)》，但成績已不如前。
