本套劇集最初創意來自于恐怖片導演米克•加利斯（Mick Garris），2002年他和一眾業內同好在加州共餐。席間他們相談甚歡，惺惺相惜。在此之后，加利斯召集席間的10位導演以及其他恐怖流的高手相約共同打造一套恐怖片劇集。2005年，加利斯身兼制作人和導演兩個職務，打造出每集1小時的“恐怖大師”系列（總共兩季26集），唐•卡斯卡爾利、斯圖爾特•戈登、三池崇史、約翰•麥克諾頓、鶴田法男等名聲顯赫的導演相繼參與其中，聯合為恐怖片愛好者奉上驚險刺激的恐怖盛宴。
　　本劇集榮獲2006年艾美獎杰出主題音樂獎、2006年Sitges – Catalonian國際電影節最佳劇本和評委會特別獎。
