因家庭財政危機，單身媽媽露茜（Dianne Wiest 飾）不得不帶著兩個兒子——麥克（Jason Patric 飾）和山姆（Corey Haim 飾）來到加利福尼亞某偏僻的海濱小鎮桑塔卡拉居住。桑塔卡拉被青少年飛車黨弄得烏煙瘴氣，而且當地還流傳著吸血鬼的傳說。
　　兩兄弟在這里很快結識了艾加（Corey Feldman 飾）和艾蘭（Jamison Newlander 飾）兩兄弟，他們自稱吸血鬼獵人，當然麥克和山姆對這種傳聞嗤之以鼻。不久，麥克迷上了飛車黨頭目戴維（Keifer Sutherland 飾）的女友斯塔（Jami Gertz 飾）。山姆很快便發現，哥哥的舉止竟越來越像傳說中的吸血鬼……
